Your little corner of the earth

Day 216 – Yesterday a friend accused me of becoming less conservative because I’ve been spending so much time on the “left coast.”

I’m not becoming less conservative. In fact, seeing more of the world has only strengthened my resolve as a conservative. Also, my views aren’t just being influenced by San Francisco. They are being influenced by many different regions.

And that’s exactly why I’ve been traveling. I want to expand my view of the world. It’s what I call “the New American Dream.” It’s about freedom. Freedom to do what we want, when we want. It’s about flexibility to see, to experience, to discover.

Part of the dream is travel and it was summed up beautifully by Mark Twain:

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”

Get out of your “little corner of the earth.”
