Day 186 – Last Saturday, Donehue Direct held a training day for our interns and new staff. It was awesome. It reinforced my belief that sometimes you have to take some time out of your day to save yourself much more time in the future. No one wanted to spent five hours in the office on a Saturday, but those five hours are going to save us hundreds of hours moving forward.
Building this company as my investment takes time and commitment. I want these guys to have a personal stake in this business, and care about its success. I have to.
Having my guys come in on Saturday was really cool. I think everyone learned something new. Usually we’re busy, and it’s hard to address questions for every detail or question that comes up.
One of the double edged swords we face at our company is that everyone is a self-starter. We don’t have time to hash over every detail that needs to be addressed, so a lot of it is finding out for yourself and making things work. It’s also why we maintain projects as a group and check each other’s work. We’re Republicans, so I guess that can tie into the principle of self-reliance. Make things happen for yourself.
Having some time to go about proper training methods and development made me feel better about where we’re going. I think it was one more omen that this idea I came up with is going to be very successful.
I loved it. I think everyone found out a thing or two about each other that we didn’t know.
I wanted beer though. It’s a Saturday. That idea got nixed. Even the bosses ideas get nixed sometimes. What’s all that about?
Maybe next time. I have a feeling we’ll be adding new faces, and they will need training too.
We’ll talk about that when we get there. Training day number one was a great success.
