Should guys go to a “stylist?”

Day 116 – Today I learned that I’m supposed to only wash my hair twice a week. Ok, this one is new to me and I just don’t know how I feel about it.

As a man, I should be going to a barber shop and not a stylist, but today I had to make an exception. Before I get into this, you should know that my father was a barber and my mother was a cosmetologist. That means I got my hair cut all the time.

Now that both of my parents are dead, I have to be an adult and figure it all out on my own. For years I shaved my head with a #1 or #2 guard for the simple fact that I have the thickest hair in the world. Seriously, I’m not going bald anytime soon. I might have a whole head of white hair, but you probably won’t see any bald spot up there for a good while.

That’s good, right?

What’s bad is that I have a whole mop of thick frizziness. A barber doesn’t know how to bust this whig so I handed over the extra cash for a “stylist” to give me direction.

Is that ok?

Yeah, I think so. If your a normal guy with normal hair, you should go to a barber. Those of us with whacked out hair have to do a little more.

What I learned is that by washing my hair every day, I’m making it more dry and more frizzy. She said that a person should only wash their hair twice a week because hair needs the oil naturally produced by the scalp. Now, obviously every one is different. Really oily people or folks with dirtier jobs should wash more.

Anyway, I learned something new today. Guys, I hope I taught you something too.
