It’s my birthday!

Day 118 – WOOT! WOOT! I’m 32. And I feel it.

The day didn’t start out great. I’m definitely feeling my age now. I hit the gym first thing this morning, and while pushing a giant tractor trailer tire across the gym, I felt an urgent need to puke. So I ran to the restroom, puked my guts out and headed home. I got home, opened the door, fell to the floor in the foyer and slept for a little over an hour. Yep, I literally passed out in the foyer of my home.

Pub Politics Tuesday

Day 117 – It’s Pub Politics Tuesday again. Earlier today we taped a pretty awesome segment for WACH FOX. As you can see, I went after the Governor’s staff a good bit.

Should guys go to a “stylist?”

Day 116 – Today I learned that I’m supposed to only wash my hair twice a week. Ok, this one is new to me and I just don’t know how I feel about it.

As a man, I should be going to a barber shop and not a stylist, but today I had to make an exception. Before I get into this, you should know that my father was a barber and my mother was a cosmetologist. That means I got my hair cut all the time.

How to host a rock star at a tailgate

Day 115 – Boom goes the dynamite!

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Clemson Tigers last night for the third year in a row.

This win seems bittersweet. I love my Gamecocks, but as I said last night, I can’t help but think that an era in my life is coming to an end. The Gamecocks symbolize college, graduate school and the early years of my career and marriage. Now its time for something more and I’m ready to take that leap. Where next? Not quite sure, but I hope to have it figured out by the next USC v Clemson game.

Throwing it down on Nation Builder

Day 114 – It’s game day.  And not just any game day. It’s the biggest game day of the year – USC v Clemson.

The best news of all is that its a 7:30 game. That means things are going to get crazy and its going to be a late evening. It’s not a day for blogging, so I’ll just share a great interview I did this week. with Nation Builder’s Leaders and Creators Podcast.

Made me scream: Microtower

Day 113 – Elizabeth blogs occasionally about things that “made me smile.” Today I want to tell you about something that made me scream.

I absolutely hate AT&T’s 3G MicroCell. Don’t buy it.

This device plugs into your Internet service to extend 3G into a building with poor AT&T service. It’s

A lowcountry style Thanksgiving

Day 112 – Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

It was a very special day for us. We hosted our first Thanksgiving dinner at our home. We picked up my grandmother and Elizabeth’s grandmother from their respective homes. Elizabeth’s brother and my sister, brother-in-law and niece drove up from Charleston.

Kill more time vampires

Day 111 – I told you how to kill the meeting and conference call time vampires. Today I ran across these great tips on how to kill the Internet time vampire.

Pub Politics Tuesday

Day 110 – Another very busy day with little time to write. Like every Tuesday, we shot the WACH Fox version of Pub Politics today. This Occupy movement is getting hot in Columbia and across the nation. It’s a strange topic, because as I said before, there is no clear right or wrong. Both sides are right. I just wish the Occupiers would be a little cleaner in their protest. They should have the right to raise Hell. And I should have the right to clean public property, which my tax dollars pay for.

Apologize when you screw up

Day 109 – Yes, I know. My last blog post was a little over the top. I shouldn’t be calling Seth Miller a pathetic loser. I get it. But that’s the point I was making.

Becoming a better person is progress. It doesn’t just happen overnight. I happens through lots of failed attempts.

I try to squash my anger and I’ve come a very long way. I probably would have ignored Seth if he were just attacking me, but seeing him attack my staff really pushed me over the edge.

Snoozing and Losing

Day 108 – Today I want to tell you about Seth Miller. Two word describe him pretty well – pathetic loser.

This guy builds some of the worst looking WordPress sites I’ve ever seen. He supposedly smokes pot all day while attacking people on Twitter from his grandmother’s home, where he lives. Columbia attorney Todd Kincannon calls Miller “the dumbest drug dealer ever.”

Why am I here again?

Day 107 – I’ve been blogging strangely this week. You can tell by now that I’m going through some funk.

It’s quite strange that the more one sees, the more one wants to see. I decided about four years ago to change my life by traveling. And it did change my life.

A gentleman honors his commitments

Day 106 – A few months back while I was in the middle of about 200 things, I got a call from my friend Earl Capps asking me to speak on a tech panel in Charleston. Earl is a good friend, so without even looking at my calendar, I agreed.

The panel is at 9 am tomorrow morning. In Charleston.

Yes, it is time

Day 105 – It is Thursday night and I just got home from Vista Lights.

Another Vista Lights. Another year is passing by.

A few days ago I asked “is it time to take the next step?” Tonight I realized that the answer is absolutely, yes.

The truth changes depending on where you stand

Day 104 – I’ve come to realize that my day rarely works out that way I had planned.

I didn’t expect to get caught up in the middle of the Occupy war today, but I did. And I guess I’m cool with that.

The day began when I sent a letter from SC Senate Majority Leader Harvey Peeler to the press, calling on the SC Budget and Control Board to remove the Occupy Columbia crowd from the SC statehouse grounds.

The lotus flower

Day 103 – There is a scene in ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ where the main characters enter the Lotus Casino and begin partying with the crowd. They are given lotus flowers, which they continue eating all night.

Except, it wasn’t just one night. What they thought was a night was actually five days. They could have stayed there forever, stuck in that one place, eating the lotus flower and never leaving the casino.

The next step

Day 102 – It’s Monday and as I look toward the schedule this week I see meetings, calls, lots of work, some public speaking engagements and social events including Vista Lights and the USC/Citadel football game.

Vista Lights is something we do every year. Football games are something we do every weekend during football season. And for the first time that I can remember, I’m really not looking forward to either.

I like people who want to kill it

Day 101 – This is going to be a short post. I’m pretty busy today. Oh, and get used to me starting my blog posts that way. Things aren’t likely to get any slower over the next few months.

That’s because we are trying to KILL IT!!

Don’t go through security with a gun in your bag

Day 100 – I made it to 100 straight days of blogging. No wonder I’m so tired.

In this quick video, I tell you why its a good idea to slow down and pay attention to what you’re doing. Leaving keys and credit cards places is bad. Going through airport security with a loaded handgun is REALLY bad.

I told you “We Innovate Politics”

Day 99 – We don’t just put “We Innovate Politics” on our logo because we think it sounds great. We put it there because we really do innovate politics.  Today I was awarded the Republican Campaign Innovator award by Campaigns and Elections magazine and New Media Strategies.  I wish I could have brought the entire team up because this truly is a team effort. Michael, Renee, Jonathan, Phil, Jarrett and the team Lauren has assembled are really crushing it right now.  What a complete ROCK STAR team!
