From Coach to Dumplings

Day 69 – From Charlotte to Chicago, Chicago to Beijing, today’s flight was the longest we have ever taken. It was also the largest plane we have traveled on.

Pull the trigger on those ch-ch-ch-changes

Day 68 – I have to admit… this week was very depressing for me. I shouldn’t, but I let the Gamecocks affect my mood. I’ve been thinking of that dang Auburn loss all week. And what is so frustrating is that Auburn didn’t beat us. We beat us.

Leave The Ladies Home

Day 67 – This morning I woke up on Folly Beach. Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t actually wake up on the beach. I woke up on a beach house couch.

Last night, we held Pub Politics Episode 76 at Wild Dunes on the Isle of Palms. For those of you not from South Carolina, it’s an upscale private beach community outside of Charleston.

Enjoy Life While You’re Still Here

Day 66 – My father and I were as close as a father and son could be when I was a child. But when my parents divorced, my father turned away from God and family and toward violence and drugs. We didn’t talk for years as he bounced in and out of jail until two years ago when he called to tell me he was dying of what started as colon cancer. He died last year after the cancer spread throughout his body.

Why China? Why Now?

Day 65- It’s 10:00 pm. I’m at Donehue Direct.

Got here at 7:30 am. Still here.

Brain mush. Can’t write. Thinking hurts.

The Economy Sucks But You Don’t Have To

Day 63 -

We hear the news about how bad the economy is, but we often put on blinders as if it’s not impacting our lives.

This isn’t a political post. It’s a reality post. The economy does suck, and people are hurting.

This week, three friends of mine were laid off from their jobs. Another three emailed me desperate for work. One of those, a recent college grad, may turn to bagging groceries because no one is hiring.

Relaxing is a lot of work

Day 62 – Psalm 127:2, David wrote “In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for he grants sleep to those he loves.”

In other words, God wants us to rest. He gave us the ability to rest because he loves us. It is a gift that we should receive, but do not.

Many of us feel as if rest is for the weak. We work around the clock, everyday, always attached to our blackberries and iPhones as if the world cannot survive one day without us.

My Grass Is Wearing a Toupee

Day 61 – We just got back from the USC / Auburn game. I don’t want to talk about it.

No, I’m not going to yell about Garcia’s nine interceptions in just five games or Spurrier’s inability to get him to the point a 5th- year senior should be. I’ll just call it what it is – unrequited love. I love them. They don’t love me back.
