Why China? Why Now?

Day 65- It’s 10:00 pm. I’m at Donehue Direct.

Got here at 7:30 am. Still here.

Brain mush. Can’t write. Thinking hurts.

Okay, that’s enough whiney. I hate whiney people. I also hate when people don’t stop to think before writing. Or typing. I should quit that too.

In just five days I’ll be on an airplane to Beijing, China. So, why China?

I’ve gotten that question a lot over the past few weeks. It isn’t so much that I’m dying to see China as much as I’m just dying to see everything. We’ve taken two trips to Europe recently and now I’m ready to go further east. Well, actually, I’ll be going west.

Because I want to see everything, the question isn’t “why China” as much as “why now?”

A few months ago, two of our dearest friends, Jason and Kamala Diefenthaler, moved to Beijing. Jason got a job there, and the two of them have always been into international affairs. They were part of our close Sunday school class, and despite being in Beijing, Kamala still Skypes in to Elizabeth’s Bible study every week. Seeing that there’s a twelve-hour difference, that’s a lot of commitment.

With the Diefenthalers being in Beijing and giving us a free place to stay and a whole butt load of frequent flier miles saved up, our expenses to visit China dropped dramatically. That’s why we are visiting now.

China has always been on my must-visit list because of its rich history and culture. However, recently China has risen economically, challenging America as the world’s dominate superpower. A historic culture is becoming that powerful… now that’s something to see and experience.

I cannot wait to give you daily updates from China.
