Day 60 – And BOO YAH, September is done.
Another month down. Two straight months of blogging every single day. How about that?
It hasn’t been easy, but I’m getting it done and I appreciate you reading.
Earlier today Elizabeth and I stopped by LaRoque to meet Christie Leigh Mueller, where she was holding a book signing for her new work GridIron Belles: A Guide to Saturdays in Dixie.
Sure, this book is meant for women, but men, pay attention. If your lady hates football and its driving you absolutely crazy, this might be the solution to your problems.
Football is a tough guy sport, but if it gets the lady off your back so that you can enjoy your Saturday, let her make it a bit “cute.” From how to set up that fancy tailgate with chandeliers and flowers to the proper attire for each team, Mueller lays down the rules for all southern belles.
But that’s not where she starts. Mueller explains the rules, the positions, the coaching structure, the refs, “the pretty yellow flags,” the differences in college and NFL football and even how to set up the proper “O-Line.”
She writes:
“The ‘O-Line’ also known as the group that battles “in the trenches,” consists of the offensive players on the line of scrimmage. Their goal is to protect the ball-carrier while simultaneously creating gaps on the field where the ball-carrier can safely run through the opponent. The offensive linemen are the big guys.
Offense line positions from left to right: Tackle, Guard, Center, Guard, Tackle.”
Mueller could have just told the Gamecock ladies “these are the people the other team is always running over.”
About the quarterback, Mueller writes “The quarterback takes the snap and he can choose to hand the ball to the running back, pass the ball to an eligible receiver or run the ball himself. Great quarterbacks are proficient at all three.” This is the point where I would make a Garcia joke, but I don’t want to jinx us as Auburn heads to Columbia.
Buy this book for your lady. Don’t wait until Christmas. You still have 7 or so games this season that you can make enjoyable.
